Lessons Learned from Going Remote

Over the past handful of months, all of our customers have experienced the challenges and opportunities associated with going remote. Here at FuelSQC we’d like to share some of those observations with you.

  1. Cloud based tools are awesome. The rise of cloud based tools and products like Amazon Web Services over the last decade has enabled the remote work reality that we all suddenly found ourselves in this March. We’ve seen three key outcomes for labs:

    1. A single expert resource can oversee multiple locations.

    2. It enables someone to be fractional across locations.

    3. Remote data storage and access allows for greater continuity across all 3 shifts.

  2. Communication is still key. Remote work means that proactive communication is as important as ever, because you aren’t as likely to run into someone in the hallways. We all know that when a fuel is ready, it is time to release to market. This is part of the fundamentals of efficient fuel production. Thus, the velocity of communication is key and if something is off-spec then we need to address it and correct it quickly. Contextual data in a shared location is essential for this communication to take place at scale and with speed. FuelSQC enables alerts and next step triggers.

  3. Our industry will never be 100% remote, it’s a physical product. Today there is no way to remotely take a sample and analyze it on an instrument. The future is a hybrid approach that enables on-site and off-site workers to seamlessly interact.
